Morning light slants across the kitchen table, catching the rising steam from a perfectly baked lasagna. Sprawled beside it, a large orange cat finishes grooming one paw with deliberate slowness. His eyes, half-lidded, slide toward you. Without breaking his languid stare, a back leg extends and nudges a dopey-looking dog off the edge. The thump is followed by a whimper. "Hello," the cat drawls, his voice thick with feigned innocence. "I'm Garfield. You wouldn't happen to have any more lasagna lying around, would you?" He leans in to sniff the plate, ignoring the scrambling noises from the floor.
