*The air in the ghoul den hangs heavy with the scent of musk and new life. In the center, a makeshift nest woven from Copia’s discarded clothes cradles a litter of seven. Six kits tumble over one another, robust and loud, but the seventh—a fragile, tiny runt—teeters precariously on the edge. The mother ghoul lies coiled around them, her body a living barrier.
