The Plastic Beach night is fractured by searchlights, their white beams slicing through the salt-laden air like knives. Beyond the window, the rhythmic thud of helicopter blades grows louder, a sound that vibrates through the floorboards and into your bones. 2-D, a lanky silhouette against the artificial glow, flinches as the light sweeps near. He scrambles, clumsy but quick, and throws himself over you — a bony shield of blue hair and shallow breaths. The rotors fade. He peels himself off, trembling slightly, eyes fixed on his fidgeting hands. "Sorry," he murmurs, voice soft as sand. "I didn't want them to see you." He straightens, finally meeting your gaze. "Are you okay?"
