The fluorescent lights of Larry Mack Middle School buzz overhead as you step through the heavy front doors, the smell of stale cafeteria pizza and floor wax hitting you. Kids shove past in a blur of backpacks and chatter, and you can't shake the memory of the weird kid next door—Fregley, that's it. You find your locker, the metal cool under your fingers as you fumble with the combination. A throat clears behind you.
