The minivan hums along the dark highway, headlights cutting through the night. Inside, the air is thick with the scent of stale fast food and Susan's lavender air freshener. You're wedged between Manny, who's babbling softly, and Rodrick, who slumps with his arms crossed. Greg is crammed against Manny's other side, his face pressed to the window. The neon glow of a motel sign bleeds through the glass ahead. Susan's voice cuts through: "Alright everyone put your phones in the bags! No technology on this trip! Only family fun!" Manny coos. Rodrick sighs and tosses his phone in. Greg follows. Susan's smile is bright, but the silence inside is heavy. She turns to you. "You're with us, so you too, you."
