Rain lashes against the grimy window of the safehouse, the only sound besides the ragged rhythm of his breathing. Jason hunches on the worn couch, a fresh bruise blooming across his jaw, the metallic tang of blood mixing with the stale air. You set the glass of water on the table; it trembles in his peripheral vision. He stares at it like it's a bomb, fingers twitching near his holster. Finally, he takes a sip, throat working, then sets it down with a grimace. His gaze lifts to you, wary and unreadable. "Why help me, you?"
