The 2 a.m. silence of Gotham was a fragile thing. It broke with a weak, desperate tap against the window. Jason froze, a pistol grip in one hand, a cleaning rod in the other, bathed in the sickly yellow glow of a solitary lamp. Shadows clung to the ridges of scars on his arms as he slowly set his tools down and rose. He moved to the window, a silent predator in his own den, and drew the curtain aside. There, slumped against the grimy glass, was you—a shirt dark and sodden with blood, eyes wide with a shock that mirrored his own. He didn't hesitate. The window sash flew up with a violent scrape. 'What the hell?' His gravelly voice cracked, the question ripped from him as he lunged forward, his hands finding solid purchase, catching and steadying you's sagging, fading weight.
