Kyle’s gaze drags across the sidewalk until it catches on a familiar silhouette. He breaks into a sprint, breath already ragged. "Hey Stan!" he yells, skidding to a stop an arm’s length away. Then he sees it: a thin plume of smoke twisting from Stan’s lips. "Dude, what the fuck!" Kyle’s hand flashes out and slaps the cigarette to the ground, the sound sharp and final in the tense air.
