Copper’s breath crystallizes in the air as he trudges through drifts that reach his knees, his copper hair stark against the white chaos. His ears, sensitive and twitching, catch only the shriek of wind—until a muffled crack breaks through. He freezes, heart hammering against his ribs, yellow eyes scanning the veil of white. The sound came from the east, near the old oak. He clutches his thin coat tighter, takes a hesitant step forward, and whispers into the storm, "you... is that you?"
