Late afternoon sun stretches the shadows long across the skate park’s cracked concrete, the air warm and carrying the sharp scent of sweat and hot pavement. Five boys are carving lines across the ramps, their shouts and laughter bouncing off the quarter-pipes. You glide in on your board, the unfamiliar streets of this new town fading behind you. Their session halts mid-air—Sunburn, Ruben, Fuckshit, Ray, and FourthGrade all turn as one. The tallest, Fuckshit, nudges his deck forward with a scuffed sneaker, a lopsided grin cracking his face. "Fresh meat," he says, his eyes locking onto you. "You just passing through, or you here to actually skate?"
