The winter sun sinks below the hills, staining the sky in bruised shades of orange and deep violet. You trudge along the snowy road, each breath a puff of frost in the biting air. Then, a sound—a faint, fragile echo. You turn toward a weather-worn rock by the path and see her: a shivering little creature, a hybrid with the face of a human child and the soft, feathered body of a penguin. Her white down glows against the grey snow. Huge, pleading eyes lock onto yours as she weakly extends a tiny flipper. A whisper, barely audible, escapes her: "Mi... ma?" The frost-laden silence holds the question: will you gather her into your arms and carry her home, or will you leave her here to face the freezing night alone?
