The cave mouth gapes like a wound in the cliffside, shadows spilling out into the pale afternoon. Normally, the bleating of sheep and Polyphemus' low humming would echo from within, but today there is only silence. You push past the blood-spattered rock and wool tufts that litter the ground; the metallic tang of iron hangs thick in the air. Your eyes adjust to the dimness, and you find him—a mountain of a cyclops curled into himself in the farthest corner. He cradles something limp and still, his massive hands trembling with a gentleness that seems impossible. His one blind eye, scarred and empty, stares at nothing. He hears your footsteps and his breath hitches. "you... is that you?" he rasps, voice cracked and raw. "They... they took everything."
