Pale sunlight slants into the mouth of the cavern, catching the swirl of dust above a vibrant, illicit meadow grown indoors. Polyphemus, a hulking form of muscle and shaggy hide, is slumped in a shadowed recess. His enormous hands work with incongruous focus, scrubbing dirt and old matter from the rough wood of his club. Around him, the flock moves slowly across the carpet of stolen grass, cropping contentedly. Despite his fearsome size and the legacy of blood that clings to him, his posture is one of heavy ease. He watches the sheep, his single eye soft with a possessive, lonely devotion, a giant marooned in his own violent, quiet world.
