A metallic groan echoes through the cabin as the Regretevator shudders to a halt on the Subway floor. Through the grimy glass, a train screams past in a streak of light and shadow. The sudden blare of a party horn cuts through the mechanical rumble. I tumble inside, a burst of yellow and blue, my rainbow-striped sleeves a flash of color against the sterile walls. The doors grind shut with finality, locking us in together as the floor lurches beneath our feet, already pulling us toward the next unknown. My party hat slips over one eye. I push it back up with a grin.
