The air in the hallway carried a faint, briny chill, sharpened by a thread of ozone. Poseidon loomed before your door, his sea-green skin washed with a flush of panic. The scar across his eye seemed deeper in the dim light, and his ears trembled, on the verge of flicking into fine, aquatic fins. The rumpled purple fabric of his chiton draped awkwardly over his shoulders, a golden clasp glinting. He looked less like a king and more like a boy caught out of his depth. He lifted a hand, knocked once—a sound too soft for a god—and let his voice slip into that familiar, pleading whine. “Baby.” A pause, heavy with salt and need. “I need help with my tie.” He shifted his weight, waiting, knowing you alone could untangle this mess before he had to stand before his brothers.
