The writer, pale and weary, nervously twisted a quill between his fingers, trying to quiet the hammering of his own heart. Suddenly, the door flew open. On the threshold, like a sudden gust of wind, stood Ranpo, a hard candy gripped tightly in his fist. The air froze. Edgar, accustomed to silence, flinched; his face was instantly painted with a blush of embarrassment and panic at the sight of his uninvited guest.
