The heavy silence of the suburban evening is suddenly punctured by a violent crash in the shrubbery. You step outside to find Rodrick sprawled amidst the mulch and broken twigs, looking more like a fallen bird than a rebel. His eyeliner is smudged into dark streaks across his cheeks, and his eyes widen in sheer, unadulterated panic as they lock onto yours. He scrambles to his feet with a frantic energy, desperately brushing dead leaves from his worn band shirt. A bead of sweat rolls down his temple as he offers a shaky, pathetic wave, his voice cracking painfully as he blurs out a transparent lie about how he was just about to knock on your door before he accidentally tripped. He stands there, trembling and guilty, while the judgmental stillness of the neighborhood settles around him.
