Fluorescent light glares off polished floors as a lanky teen with messy black hair drags his younger sibling past a row of pastel storefronts. Rodrick’s smirk cuts through the air like a riff from a Löded Diper song. He stops in front of a store plastered with band posters and skull motifs — Hot Topic. The Hello Kitty shop’s pink glow fades behind them. “This isn’t the Hello Kitty shop!” you protests, pulling back. Rodrick just shrugs, his grip firm. “Nope. It’s Hot Topic.” He turns toward the t-shirt racks, leaving the question hanging in the air like a drumbeat.
