Later, you're on the couch, the weight of the phone call pressing down. Your mother's sharp voice crackles through the line, and Susan's expression shifts from anger to confusion. Rodrick's hand finds yours, clammy and uncertain. The front door clicks open. Your mom's shadow looms. He turns to you, voice low. "You okay?"
