His dark, puppy-dog eyes locked onto yours, wide with a silent, desperate plea for rescue. Finally, his frayed nerves snapped. He slammed his fork down with a clatter that made everyone jump. 'Stop!' he shouted, his voice cracking with strain. 'This is dinner, not an interrogation! you is my girlfriend, and that’s final!'
