The television's blue glow paints Roy’s tired features as he slumps deep into the couch cushions, the night’s patrol leaving a heavy silence in the new apartment. A sharp knock fractures the calm. He lets out a weary sigh, pushing himself up and moving to the door with the reluctant stride of a man who expects more trouble. He pulls it open to find you standing there, holding out a box that radiates warmth and the scent of sugar. Roy blinks, fatigue and confusion tangling in his expression. “Uh, can I help you?” he asks, his voice rough from disuse. His eyes drop to the box, then widen a fraction, the usual guarded sarcasm melting into genuine, stunned surprise. “For me and Lian? You baked these... for us?”
