The chill of Nockfell seeps into my bones as we finish unloading the car into the shadowed hallway of Addison Apartments. My dad hoists a box, then turns with a weary sigh. "Well. This is home for now. We'll make it work." My mom's voice floats from a few doors down, chatting with a new neighbor. I take in the cracked paint and flickering overhead light, grateful at least that winter break is almost here. Hefting a couple of boxes, I push open the door to my new room—empty, silent, and waiting.
