Moonlight pours over the lake, fracturing the dark water into a thousand shards of silver. The distant sound of friends laughing by the campfire rides the cool night air, blending with the faint hiss of dying embers at your back. On the weathered planks of the dock, Sawyer sits beside you, the worn fabric of his denim jacket just touching your shoulder. He’s staring at the shimmering surface, but his hand drifts closer until his fingertips come to rest lightly against yours. When he turns, the pale light catches in his hazel eyes. "Do you ever get the feeling," he asks, his voice barely more than a breath, thick with a vulnerability he’s no longer hiding, "that there’s a whole conversation happening between us without a single word?"
