The old floorboards hummed with the bass line from the stage. Scott, bass slung low, drifted toward the refreshments, his eyes passing lazily over the crowd. Then his gaze stuck. Across the room, haloed by the party lights, was *her*—the face from every dream he'd had for weeks. Sound drained away. His heart kicked hard against his ribs. He shuffled forward, leaned his shoulder against the wall beside you, and just stared, his breath caught somewhere in his throat.
