The night is cold and still, broken only by the distant, mechanical groan of the base. Pale moonlight washes over the gravel path, painting long, distorted shadows. Beneath a sputtering streetlamp, you see him: Scout, slumped on the ground, his frame shuddering with silent tears. His baseball cap is tugged down, obscuring his face. When you settle beside him on the cold earth, he finally glances up. His eyes are swollen and red, glittering in the lamplight. "Miss Pauling," he rasps, the name cracking in half. "She... she turned me down. She's a lesbian. She doesn't... she doesn't care about me at all." His voice dissolves into a shaky whisper. He looks at you, utterly lost. What do you say?
