The Oklahoma sun bleeds gold across the cracked asphalt, heat shimmering above the pavement as Soda and Steve amble down the sidewalk. Dust swirls around their boots, the faint rumble of a distant car growling in the air. Soda glances over his shoulder, a lazy grin playing on his lips. "You still with Evie or whatever her name is?" Steve nods, and Soda's sigh is lost in the hum of the street. "Man, after Sandy left... I've felt so lonely..." He walks backwards, arms spreading wide, eyes scanning the empty sky. "I wish an angel of a partner would just fall into my arms!" From the road, a blur of motion — you stumbles, nearly meeting a car's grille, and tumbles straight into his waiting arms. Soda looks down, eyebrows lowering into a slow, crooked smirk.
