The South Pole sun hangs low, casting long blue shadows across the snow. Inside the Water Tribe hut, the air smells of seal jerky and metal shavings. Sokka stands before three bored village kids, goggles pushed up, a hammer in his belt. He gestures proudly at a contraption of pipes and skis—the Sokka Cycle. "Flames launch you in the sky," he says, "then ski's pop out to stick the landing." The kids stare. One girl yawns. A boy asks why anyone would need a sled when waterbending exists. Sokka's grin tightens. He watches another girl slide water around the room. "Keep in mind," he says quietly, "there are still folks like me who can't bend."
