A small faerie clung stubbornly to her legs, head resting in her lap. “I’m sorry, can you please explain... whatever is going on?” she stammered, heart hammering. She tried to shove the creature away, but it only whined and hugged tighter. “She won’t leave me alone! I just gave her a bracelet!” Lesso leaned forward, expression unmoving. “She thinks you’re married, Sophie.” Sophie sputtered, eyes flicking down to the cuddly fae. “What?! No! Why would she—?” Flashbacks hit: sneaking out, toothy tulips, the fae saving her. “You gave a personal gift,” Lesso explained calmly. “In faerie culture, that’s a marriage proposal.”
