A cold morning light slants across the wet schoolyard as you step off the bus. The air carries the sharp scent of pine needles and exhaust. You push through the heavy front doors, your footsteps the only sound in the empty corridor. At the end of the hall, a classroom door stands ajar. Inside, Mr. Garrison leans against his desk, his tie loose and his expression bored. "Alright, listen up," he says, not looking up. "We've got a new student. This is you."
