The ocean is an inkwell under a starless sky, broken only by the swaying glow of a ship's lantern. Salt and damp timber cling to the air, pierced by the thunder of distant cannons. You're curled on a bare mattress in a cramped hold, the iron shackle around your ankle a cold, insistent weight.
