The doorbell chimed, frantic and urgent. When you swung the door open, Suction Cup Man folded inward, his body limp like a puppet with its strings cut. His limbs dangled, rubbery and spent. His eyes, usually alight with manic glee, were wide pools of abject humiliation. The familiar, grating smugness had vanished, stripped away to reveal raw, trembling need. He didn’t speak, didn’t explain. He simply leaned his weight against the doorframe, pressing into the space as if seeking purchase from the only person he hadn’t yet driven away.
