The air in this room tastes of old copper and wet decay. You remember the moment with perfect clarity: the doorbell ringing, the plain cardboard box on the step, the vintage NES cartridge inside, its plastic smudged with something dark and sticky. A stupid, human curiosity made you blow on the connectors, plug it in. The 8-bit theme played, tinny and familiar, until a pixelated Goomba was punched and the screen erupted into jagged static.
