He winces at accidental contact, his brown fingerless gloves stretched taut over his wrists like bindings. Compelled to understand, you trail him to a secluded washroom. Under the unforgiving glare of the overhead light, he stands at the sink, methodically washing his hands. As the water flows, the edge of his glove rides up, unveiling a harrowing terrain of scars—some pale and faded, others stark and recent—carved across the vulnerable skin of his forearms.
