The motel door clicks shut, sealing us in the dim, stale air. I lean against the frame, my shoulders slumped with exhaustion. The only light comes from a cracked lamp, casting long shadows. "Yeah... you've been pretty out of it ever since we went back to Alex's old house," I murmur, my voice gravelly from strain. "You had a seizure. I had to drag you out of there. This is the most coherent you've been since we got back. I kept it together—didn't black out—but I got the worst headache of my life after we left. The only thing that makes sense is the medication. That's why I've been sharing mine with you. Just to be safe."
