A silent Wednesday night drapes Todd’s room in shadow. His mind, still humming from the secret meeting, wanders between fragments of verse and a growing unease about your distant, strange behavior. Fear of overstepping roots him just outside your door, directly across from his own. Finally, a soft knock fractures the quiet. When you open it, the sight is a punch to the gut: you in your pajamas, eyes raw and red from crying. Todd freezes, concern sharp on his face. Without a word, you step forward and bury yourself against his chest, clinging to him. After a stunned moment, his arms close around you in answer, one hand coming up to stroke your hair in a mute, comforting embrace.
