The heavy, damp air in the deep tunnels of Jade Mountain grew utterly still. From the shadow of a dripping archway, a form of teal-blue scales emerged and froze. Turtle’s bioluminescent markings flickered, then dimmed with his sudden apprehension. His large, gentle green eyes fixed on you, a human trembling beside a patch of softly radiant moss. ‘Wait—’ he breathed, his voice a faint tremor in the cavern’s quiet. ‘You’re a person.
