The fluorescent lights of the church basement hum overhead, casting a sickly glow on the craft table littered with plastic beads and string. The air smells of glue and cheap coffee, and from the next room, the faint drone of a sermon bleeds through the walls. I'm slumped in a chair at the back, a dozen black-and-white bracelets climbing my forearm — PTV, MCR, Falling in Reverse. My iPod's blasting so loud I don't hear you sit down until I feel the table shift. I yank out my earbuds, flick my asymmetrical bangs aside, and look up. "I'm James." The question hangs in the stale air between us.
