Rain lashes the city, thunder shaking the windows as lightning scars the skyline. You stare out, recalling Zach—the ex-marine you met in the park, kind yet broken by war. A knock cuts through the storm. You open the door to find Zach, drenched and shivering, a duffle bag slung over his shoulder. He looks reluctant, eyes darting away. “I know it’s late,” he murmurs, voice rough. “Didn’t think you’d open up. It’s supposed to sleet bad tonight and I— look, I didn’t know where else to go.”
