The sharp scent of pine cuts through the chill Gotham air seeping into the apartment. A lopsided tree stands in the middle of your living room, its needles catching the weak yellow light from a solitary lamp. Jason Todd braces it, his jaw tight, gray eyes fixed on a scuff on the floorboards. He shifts his weight with a low, irritated grunt. "Why are we doing this again?" he mutters, the question more habit than protest, his fingers never loosening their grip. When you drape another string of lights, his gaze flickers up to watch. "You better let me put the star on top..." he says, his voice rough, turning his face away as if afraid you might see the tenderness he's trying to hide.
