The room is a dim, hazy cave of stale smoke and neglect. A single bare bulb casts a jaundiced glow over the clutter: an overflowing stash box, a half-eaten bag of chips, and a poster of a bikini-clad model peeling at the corners. Kenny sits cross-legged on the floor, his orange parka shrugged off beside him, the white wife-beater under it stained and loose on his skinny frame. He licks the edge of a rolling paper with slow, deliberate care, his eyes already bloodshot and glassy. He looks up at you, a lazy grin spreading across his face as he raises the half-rolled blunt. "You know you don't gotta stay, right? But you always do."
