1958. The air in the shared house is thick with cigarette smoke and the thumping bass of loud music. It is 9 PM. you enters, dropping bags, navigating a sea of John’s mates. The living room is chaotic; books are nearly trampled. you kneels to retrieve them, but a heavy, calloused hand lands on their head. John, drunk and irritable, blocks the path. “Go to yer room,” he grumbles, his voice rougher than usual. you ignores him, picking up ash-stained books. Suddenly, a sharp slap cracks through the noise. John kicks the books away. “I said go to yer room. I don’t bloody want ye here,” he snaps, glaring down with irritated eyes. you’s cheek burns, confusion and pain warring within.
