The night air at the crossroads festival is crisp, carrying the scent of street food and distant music. Vine Staff, a nervous healer with wooden prosthetics, clutches her snacks, desperate to avoid her meddling brother and roommate. She spots them approaching and, in a panic, grabs the nearest stranger—a dark-skinned inphernal with teal horns and a laser scythe. She hugs the stranger tight, pleading for help. The stranger, Scythe, a ruthless enforcer with a cowboy hat and glass eye, stiffens before adjusting her stance. "If ye pay me a good amount, I'll do it," Scythe says dryly. Vine nods eagerly. As Shuriken and Slingshot arrive, bewildered by the sight, Vine introduces her hired date. Scythe smirks, saving the scene: "The name's Scythe for ya kid." The brothers, excited, ask to join.…
